Design, planning & construction phase: 15 months from demolition to finish

Our Rochford Art team was appointed as the main contractor on the project, where we dealt with the full refurbishment and a complete make-over of this beautiful semi-detached Victorian home. Our Rochford Joinery workshop team created bespoke furniture for this exceptionally beautiful family home in London.

This stunning family home has three reception rooms, a dining room, and four bedrooms, which all have their own en-suite bathroom. There’s also a study, a magnificent cinema room, a wine room, hobby room and gym. This transformation needed a brand-new staircase to improve and update the entire interior layout, improving the flow of the house and helping with the transition from indoors to outdoors. The spacious rear extension leads to the newly installed terrace and garden with new planting and trees providing shady spots for sunny days.

For the sitting room we designed and installed two cupboards either side of the fireplace. Each item is made to fit the allocated space precisely, and we added internal shelves and angled top surfaces for displaying magazines, as well as unique diamond-shaped floating shelves on the wall above. All the joinery was hand-painted on-site by our specialists for a highly individual finish.

Our clients wanted their own bedroom-bathroom-dressing room suite to be ultra-luxurious and full of impact. The lady of the house wanted a dedicated Her Dressing room with open plan wardrobes to all walls. She also needed lots of shelves, and drawers with glazed fronts, so contents were easily visible – and would also be beautifully displayed. Naturally, both full-length and mid-height hanging spaces were included. The whole wardrobe space is tastefully illuminated and precision-built using walnut veneer, protected by a clear lacquer. Her bathroom has a built-in marble vanity unit and cabinets either side, containing adjustable shelves. A concealed cabinet has framed and mirrored doors, which open to reveal glass shelves. All the cabinetry has integral lighting, with each cabinet sprayed to the desired Farrow & Ball colour.

For His Dressing room and bathroom we designed Crittall doors in a bronze finish, teamed with opaque white glass – a combination that has been much admired. The dressing room includes plenty of made-to-measure shoe shelves, drawers with glazed fronts and compartments for watches and accessories, full and mid-height hanging, and clever pull-out trouser hangers. Everything has integral LED lighting, naturally.

The Media room is extremely luxurious, with low-level bespoke cabinetry in Canaletto Walnut veneer, featuring bronze details and finger pulls. Each cabinet has interior shelving and the sound system speakers are all integrated.

Other features in this lovely home include bespoke cabinetry for the children’s bathrooms providing lots of storage, with a super-smooth sprayed paint finish, teamed with marble surfaces and contemporary mirrors. On one of the landings we created a cupboard area to provide extra storage for shoes and towels, with spray finish doors and finger pull openings. The joinery in the Hobby room was designed with pull-out shelves with perforated metal sheet bases, plus we were able to accommodate an extra fridge and wine fridge – rather useful additions for this busy household. All the interior doors for this transformation were a unique design; we constructed completely flat doors with a spray finish, and then added huge half-circle bronze finishing touches. Some of the bathroom doors had full-height mirrors to both sides, with the highly pleasing effect of enhancing both light and space in those areas.
